Hello stranger! Merry Christmas! Happy New year! Happy Birthday! Happy blog post day! I bestow all the greetings and all the well wishes to you. God knows you deserve it for joining me back here after my disappearance.
Where have I been? What happened?
Well, I would love to say that I was swept up in a whirlwind romance by a burly Norwegian man named Eric. And that we ran away to Bora Bora and eloped. Where Eric is now rubbing my feet as I sip cocktails and shop the latest Zimmerman collection online.
So, I did what every rational, well-adjusted adult would do and stuck my head in the sand (regrettably not the sands of Bora Bora). However, if my misfortune can enlighten anyone going through a rough time, I wish to encourage you to trust in the universe and it’s beguiling and often frustrating ways. Paths sometimes need to be obliterated to force you onto the right one.
Take comfort in the fact that everything will eventually work out. Because it always does. And never feel too proud to ask for help and to lean on those around you. (Note to self: practice what I preach!) Please also know that I am always just a message away if you need support or someone to talk to. I know I talk a lot, but I’m also a good listener.
Now that’s sorted, we have a few more housekeeping items to run through.
First, welcome to Water and Wine Wardrobe 2.0!
The second of many more website redesigns to come. This one I somehow managed to do on my own, however, my computer skills lie somewhere between my mum trying to add an attachment to an email and my brother working in IT. So please excuse any errors. It is still currently under construction as I definitely bit off more than I could chew. Expect more renovations soon and bare with me as I work on ironing out the teething problems.
For the last item on the agenda, there is going to be a new blog format and new post schedule. If you remember, I normally do three outfits per post and waffle on for the equivalent of all three Lord of the Rings movies…extended editions. So, I have decided to break the post up into more manageable, bite-size morsels. Each post will be divided into three smaller posts that will contain one look each and be about a third of the size. This also allows me to upload every week, which is as often as you should change your sheets so feel free to use my posts as your reminder.
I wanted to get back into the swing of things by running through some trend pieces I have been loving over the summer. As you already know, trends usually come under the ‘wine’ category as they are more unique and less versatile.
However, I would like to introduce a new concept to you called ‘Jesus being an asshole’ (no blasphemy intended, purely for humour purposes only).
I am sure you are all familiar with the story of Jesus turning water into wine. Well, the reverse of turning wine into water would be a bit of a dick move on his part, but that’s exactly what I want to show you how to do. It’s all about getting the most wear out of your trend pieces so they become more of a staple basic like your other ‘water’ items.
In order to do this, it’s important to pick and choose your trends wisely. You want to consider;
Does it go with your style?
Does it fit in with your lifestyle?
Can you make multiple different outfits with items you already have in your wardrobe?
The first trend I have been getting around this summer is what I am calling the dad shorts.
The name is inspired by the infamous dad sneakers that have invaded the fashion world and gained an enormous cult following. These shorts are not the most flattering and if they didn’t have the belt and weren’t high waisted, they might look like you are wearing your dad’s shorts. However, I know my dad would be insulted by this reference as he deems himself to be very stylish. So, I apologise to my dad and to all dads for the stereotype. Keep strutting your stuff in your fresh threads dad!
Anyway, sorry for getting distracted by dad fashion…easy to do. Back to the shorts.
These are the linen Bermuda shorts from Shona Joy and they have a very retro vibe. Definitely more modest than a pair of hot pants and some might even go as far to say ‘man repelling’. I find they work with my style and merge into my wardrobe seamlessly. (Don’t know what that says about me…)
When styling looser fitting bottoms, always remember the rule of wearing something tighter fitting on top. This will help balance out your proportions.
I went for this black crop top from the Iconic to show a little skin and make the outfit a little less man repelling. (I’m single, it’s called advertising.) I added the black wedges for leg elongating benefits and threw this snazzy bag over my shoulder to make it a double trend outfit…because I’m extra like that.
These small ornate bags are a great accessory trend to get your hands on. They are an easy way to add interest to an outfit and almost act as a piece of jewellery. I have seen lots of different variations but this one is from Sabo Skirt and also comes in black.
So, the bell for my word count limit went off ages ago but I’ll give myself the benefit of the doubt due to the reunion and housekeeping items in this post. You know I’ve got plenty more to say but I’ll have to leave it for next week. I’ll meet you here, same time, same place for trend number two and more on the ‘Jesus being an asshole’ concept. Be there or be square. Missed you!
P.s. Love to know your thoughts on the photos. Shot with a different photographer now that I am living in Sydney. Cheese!
